    Now what is this???????

Just setting here minding my own business when I hear a whirring, osicillating sound in the distance,it gets louder with time (a few minutes). I get up and find that it is coming from Gladys computer. It has a dialog box stating,,,,,,,,,,This computer is in use and is locked and can only be unlocked by Gladys or the Administrator.

The noise continues for about 30 minutes and quits but the dialog box & message is still there, sure I could have pulled the plug but I wanted to see what might happened.

    RE: Now what is this???????

If it was a fan noise, the machine might have become too hot and the fan kicked in to cool it off (particularly for laptop computers).

If it was a harddrive noise, and you have a virusscanning software installed, a scheduled cleaning might have kicked off.

Alternately, your computer could be possessed. ;)

I wonder just how many bytes an evil spirit needs }>

Funny how it's so much easier to blame your behavior on forces beyond your control, than to take responsibility for them. Sounds like this preacher has bought into the prevailing attitude of placing blame everywhere but where it belongs . . . "the devil made me do it." :P

1985 was the the year the Commodore 128 was unveiled, along with several 256K and 512K computers. So I'd have to guess that 128K of RAM is sufficient to satisfy the needs of an evil spirit (note: much less than Excel 2000 requires :P )
