RE: new old jointer
Looks a lot like the one I got a while back and rehabbed. Mine is a couple generations newer and they disimproved it by sticking a little universal motor up inside the body rather than having the bigger motor down on the frame. The shaft for the cutter head still sticks out the back like yours so maybe down the road I'll find a new induction motor and rig it up like yours.
The fence on mine is very similar as are the tables. I must say yours looks prettier than mine.

With a belt drive, you guys could stuff as big a motor under there as you'd like.
I dought you'd need much more than 1-2 ponies. But you could go outragious. :7

new old jointer
I finally got that old circa 1950 Craftsman jointer cleaned up and painted. Painted it what looks to me to be Chrysler blue. I must be growing up. I used to paint everything Chevy orange. Also, it's nice having something around that's older than I am and still works.
