Oh shucks!
You needed to go down to Provo. Colledge town. Pretty girls!
That is one thing I always liked about Utah, beautiful women!
Almost as pretty as the gals who frequent the forum. ;)
Hated the 3.2 beer there. All pee and no buzz. :( :P
:D

RE: Back from Salt Lake, UTAH
I've had, at different times in my life, two very close friends who were LDS. Both were among the most honest, dedicated people I have ever known. I've read a bit about the LDS and, though it is not for me, the folks who live by its edicts seem to be fine upstanding citizens.
And heck, if they send folks around on bicycles all over the world looking for converts, what can you expect from visiting their main place?
Glad the training went well. Glad you're back home and back to your shop.

I'm glade you enjoyed it. I've been there many times. If you like the outside of the temple you should see the interior... Did you get to see the inside of the tabernacle with all the handcrafted woodworking?

RE: Back from Salt Lake, UTAH
The Tabernacle is closed for renovation...so I missed that. We also didn't see the inside of the Temple. The smaller church is open and we toured that one. We were told that the Tabernacle is somewhat similar to it.

RE: Back from Salt Lake, UTAH
I thought outsiders weren't allowed in there. Guess they changed that one like they did the multiple wife thing.

RE: Back from Salt Lake, UTAH
Been reading and just thought I'd chime in. I'm LDS and have been to Temple Square in SLC many times, although I live and was raised in AZ. My whole extended family lives there and I was born in Ogden. I was actually one of those folks that went around looking for converts. Except that I served in Moscow, Russia so I never had a bike. Kinda hard to pedal around in the snow. : )
The detail of all the architecture and woodworking on Temple Square has never ceased to amaze me, even though I've only taken an interest or even noticed it in the last couple years. And they did it all 150 years ago with not a single power tool. I can't even make a decent birdhouse! But it took them 40 years to build the temple, so a lot went into it.
I also just wanted to clarify something else. Although anybody can go most anywhere they want to on Temple Square the actual temple is reserved to members of the church who hold a recommend to enter the temple. Everyone else is welcome to enjoy its beauty from the outside. The things that go on in the temple or not secret, but sacred. They are simple ordinances that mean a lot to us, spiritually.
There are times when the general public can go inside and view the temple. That is when a new temple is built and an open house is organized. Anyone can go inside and take a tour of the temple. There is also one temple that is no longer owned or operated by the church that is open for tours all the time. That one is in Kirtland, Ohio.
Anyways I wrote too much like I always do. Just thought you'd like to know.

Only thing I've got against Mormons is that BYU used to regularly beat my alma mater when they were in the WAC.
No bicycle, huh?

Back from Salt Lake, UTAH (added Pic)
It is a very clean place. Tranquil and peaceful...in fact too peaceful for my liking :D. Hardly any traffic...but I heard the traffic is outside the City...not inside.
The city is almost "dead" around 8pm. Some stores/diners close as early as 5pm!!! We were touring the city and almost everything is closed by 8pm...including the downtown Police station.
The (Mormon) Temple is very impressive. They even showed a short clip of people turning using a manual lathe (a 2 man operation) during the building of the Temple (re-enactment of course). Only part I didn't like is that they use the tour as a "recruitment" tool. Not that I blame them but it could have been done with a little subtlety. The best part is that I learned a bit more about their religion.
I saw a few Black Locust on the sidewalk...the thorns are really nasty looking!!! Actually the thorns are the only thing that helped me identify the trees.
The training went well BTW LOL.
EDIT:
Here is a shot of the bench backrest (in the smaller church) which they painted to look like oak. The wood is actually pine according to them. Very impressive work.
Second pic is of the Temple at night.
Last pic is of the valley...under heavy fog. The city is actually invisible and caused lots of delays and cancelled flights.
Dario :)
