Brad, or someone, beat me to M & G
On the road again for work and took a detour to Huntsville on the way to Nacogdoches in order to stop in at M & G and grab more of that curly pecan. Well, Brad and probably several other somebody elses had nearly depleted the stack. I did find three more good board, two 4/4 and one 5/4, as well as some sticks of mesquite he had there.
Anyway, after Michael and I settled up, I retrieved a pen I had turned of some of the other pecan haul and gifted it to him. He had a younger fella there helpin him, so I got a spalted maple pen out and gave that one to the younger fella. Michael had stepped into his office and came out with a nice 4 X 4 X about 8 inch chunk of Osage Orange and gave that to me. I hadn't expected that, just wanted to give him a little souvineer from some of his wood. It's fun just giving tokens like that away. Anyway, the Bo Dark felt pretty cool to the touch and the ends were waxed so hopefully it is still nice and moist inside (it hadn't been put in the kiln) so that it won't eat the blades of my tools. All in all, I feel like I got the better of the gift trade, though I felt like I was ahead just from the look on his face when I handed him the pen and told him it was his. The BoDark was just a very nice bonus.

One of my favorite places to travel for work, "Deep East Texas". Great food, friendly sorta country folks, most of whom epitomize Charlie Daniels' (?) "Country Boy Can Survive".

Nacogdoches...Home of Stephen F. Austin State University, Virgin Pines and Tall Women. :)
It was also ground zero when the space shuttle went boom (literally) on re-entry.
"A Country Boy Can Survive" = Hank Williams, Jr.
"Just Leave This Long-Haired Country Boy Alone" = Charlie Daniels

I might be the guilt party! Like I said earlier, I grabbed every board I seen that was curly, the only thing I didn't do was dig thru the stack of wood.
Michael is a great kid! He and his dad or the kind of people that you're honored to call a friend. When I was up there 2 weeks ago he had made me a mallet out of walnut on his newly bought lathe. At first I just thought he was showing it to me once I finished looking at it I sat it back down on his deck. As I was leaving he came running out of his office to stop me and handed me the mallet saying "you forget this" It totally surprised me, I had no idea he had actually made it for me.
Hmmm, maybe I could make another one of them flounder cutting boards...
"I just don't understand...
I've cut it three times and it's still too short!"

Nacogdoches? Isn't that an infection you get from eating too many tortilla chips and cheese sauce? :P :P
