... was interesting indeed....

I am officially in their management training program now, having completed the assigned tasks in the time alloted and (I guess) impressed someone enough that I am now moving along nicely....

So far I am very impressed with the organization...

I read so many complaints on the internet about U Haul that, frankly, I was really interested to look at this from the inside to see what all the complaints are about...

.... man, I have learned a ton!

The chief complaint seems to be that the rental truck or trailer[ul][li]Isn't available at the time the customer wanted it[li]Breaks down[li]Isn't the size/type they wanted....[/ul]

The system they have is all computer driven of course, but the main thing that breaks down the system and causes delays is.... (drum roll please....) Human error!.... gee, no kidding eh :) A truck is scheduled to be returned to the drop off point before noon... and the person who is currently renting it decides they need it for another day...and doesn't call anyone to tell them that... so the dealer calls the customer and gets no answer... or leaves a message and gets no return call... and even this is understandable because they are moving! ... but meanwhile, the person who reserved that truck[ul][li]Is offered another truck (larger) at the same price[li]Has another truck located at the closest dealership and is offered that one[li]Is offered another vehicle or a change to a trailer[li]Is advised that we will still hold their reservation until that particular vehicle is finally returned.[/ul]

Anyhoo... that seems to be just the nature of the beast... trucks break down... people change their minds and keep the one they have an extra day to two... yadda, yadda, yadda... and so it goes...

The ones who take great offense at this post on the internet.. those that got great service just smile and go about their lives... and that's always the way it has been...

Anyway, I have found the people who I am working with to be very interested and motivated to make the customer happy... the mechanics out back in the shop are another story altogether }>
