You certainly have produced a desk to be proud of, that is for sure! Wonderful Job Robert!

    Dale,
Actually the holidays were the most productive as I had the whole week off between Christmas and New Years. I was able to get a lot done then as I was able to spend about 70% of my free time on the project. It would have been done a week or two earlier, but the evenings here in Phoenix werea little too cool to apply stain, poly etc.

    Robert,

That desk looks awesome, I'll bet you need three guys to move that baby.

I like the way the grain pops ouy at you.

    I like the pull handles.

Thanks for showing us your work.

    Larry,

It does way a ton. As for three guys to move it, I thought so also, but I actually moved it into the house by myself. A co-worker has two of those carpeted furniture moving dollies that he bought from Harbor Freight. I borrowed them from him and moved it in less than 10 minutes. I just lifted one end up about 8 inches and used my foot to position one of the dollies under one of the pedastals. Went to the other side and did the same. Then I pushed it around to the front door, put a rug next to the door and slid one end onto the rug. Pushed the dolly out of the way and slide the rest of the desk into the house. From there it was only about 8-10 feet from where we wanted it. I also had put these thick felt L shaped pads under all of the corners. No trouble at all. Those dollies shure saved the day. They only coost $16 each. I don't have a way to weight the desk, but my guess is 250-300 lbs.

That is one awesome roll top desk.

Sure is a lot of work in there.

Finish sounde like you ended up with a really smooth - silky smooth finish.

    Looks great.

2 1/2 months sounds really fast to me.

    after 2-1/2 months, done

Well after 2-1/2 months I can finnaly put the car back in the garage. I just completed the desk I've been working on since just before Thanksgiving. Now I need to get a nice chair to match. I've been thinking about an all oak swivel chair without arms. Without the arms, it makes it easier to slide the chair into the kneehole space. I've been looking for plans on line, but haven't had any luck so far. I have found a comercially finished chair for about $260. The price isn't too bad so I may just fore go the building and buy it.

As from a previous post, some of you may recall that I had a question on finish. I finnaly ended up using Minwax golden oak stain, two coats of Zinser seal coat and three coats of Varathane professional semi-gloss. Final coat was sanded with 1000 and 2000 grit paper and then buffed with McGuires fine cut swirl remover. For swirl remover application, I used my Porter Cable RO buffer follewed with a dry buff using a lambs wool applicator.
