Daughter got her MCAT score for the first time
My daughter just told me she scored 39 on her first MCAT test for medical school. With that score and a 3.97 gpa, she should be able to get into a med school that she likes. I don't think she'll need to retake that test.

Psychiatry but who knows, she may change her mind. She started undergrad as pre-optometry then she wandered to psychology, then to bio-chem.
I am truly blessed to have such a talented girl. All state singer, LSU ambassador, LSU court reporter, VP of student body of her college, the list goes on and on.
Her score is at 99.6 percentile. She tried but didn't come close to beating my brother's score of 44 (99.99 percentile).
Sorry for gloating guys but a father can only hold in so much.

Just to bring you back to earth- any idea what med school costs??? :)
Wife's sisters husband graduated last Sat night from OU med school. He was over $125,000 in debt last time I heard, maybe a year ago. Of course he has a practice waiting for him to start next month. Congrats on a great kid, you did good.

Yup- Med school is a brutal affair. Enormous cost-I went SUNY. It also kills most relationships, and occassionally the student. Long hours, ridiculously unhealthy lifestyle. Malignant attendings.
THEN
Residency, wherein you start to realize how good you had it in Med school. You start making a few bucks- about 30-40K after 8 years of school for 80 hours a week. More malignant attendings.
THEN
practice- wherein you realize that Residency weren't so bad. The lawyers circle waiting, and you hopefully chose good partners to throw in with. Partnership is best defined as marriage without the sex. You hope you don't pick something incurable up; as a fellow resident in my class did, stuck with a Hep C needle. His wife was preganant with their first.
But you make a decent wage- sometimes. My brother is a cop and makes a better wage than most family med docs after 6 months of police academy.
Sometimes I feel like a lemming.
Still on days when you save a kid or a parent or just make someones life a little easier, make the early diagnoses on a cancer- you count yourself blessed.
Tell your daughter not to take anything to seriously, keep faith, and stay strong with the family. The rest will come.

Wow! Congratulations to the both of you. I am in awe. That's a tremendous score.
Now on to the Med School question... Tulane? As a former resident of the Big Easy, the Green Wave medicos are near and dear to my heart... LOL
Then there is, of course, Vanderbilt... should she choose that one, let me know. Nashville is my hometown and maybe I can help her with some transition issues...
Again... I am so happy for the both of you

Sounds like a chip off the ol block. Smart kids have had someone show them a good work ethic and usually have great parents. way to go,

I second what joentoni just said! Your not blessed, your good (parents that is). Our children are a direct reflection of the work we've put into them. Kids don't become that well rounded without having good folks. Pat yourself and Lady Rider on the back! And gloat all you want.
