    Need some Advice

I received the coupon below last week and thought I would use it. So I went to the store yesterday and could not use it. The whole story is below with the coupon first and My email to the store to profess my disappointment. I blanked out the store, because it is not that big of a deal but just wanted to know what you think???

Visit the Sandy Springs Blank Woodworking and Hardware store this weekend for incredible savings!

Print out this email and bring it to the store to receive:

    My Email to the store.

I received this coupon last week and decided that I would make the 80 mile round trip to your store, because I wanted to purchase the drill press table. I was more than a little disappointed when you disallowed my coupon on the drill press table. Said it was a sale item, although the coupon does not say anything about items on sale. The table was selling for 89.99 and normally sells for 99.99 I would have been better getting it at full price and taking the discount. I did not say a lot because you kept the coupon and I thought I may have misread it, and there were a lot of people in line to check out, but I guess because it said “Not valid with any other coupon or offer” it gives you a lot of latitude to make the decision you made.
In the future if I decide to use your store, I guess I need to call in advance to get my prices right.
    Respectfully,

    RE: Need some Advice

I had a similar experience with a store that rhymes with "Spockler." They said the phrase, "Not valid with any other coupon or offer" means you can't apply it to sale items.

I said I took that to mean you couldn't stack multiple coupons, becasuse almost every other store who won't give you the discount on sale items will say, "Does not apply to sale items."

In my story, I had a 15% off coupon from a class I took from their store. All the coupon said was "15% off your total purchase. Does not include power tools or Leigh jigs." Okay. So when I went to check out, the guy said, "Oh... you can't use this on stuff already on sale." Uhh... okay. Then he said, "What kind of class was it?" I said it was on router tables. He said, "Oh. Then you can only use this towards a discount on router tables or router table accessories." I was so fed up I set my stuff down and walked out.

Don't make stuff up after the fact if it is not on the coupon.

    (I feel your pain.)

I agree with your own evaluation about calling the particular store. The fine print, or the lawyer derived disclaimers are at times very confusing.

Their suggestions were stated in the email:

I would call and get all the details before making an 80 mile trip.

It's OK to say "Rockler" :)

Believe me... I have never seen a retailer more interested in providing great customer service than Rockler. I don't have any experience with their store though...

Ev, I have forwarded this to the Boss....

    Thanks for pointing this out...

Normally coupons are not allowed on sales items at any store I know of... but maybe you should have been allowed to use it at the regular price... not sure really...

    Hi Everette,

I'm sorry for the disappointing experience you had trying to use your coupon at one of our stores. Typically, our discounts are good on regularly-priced items only, but this should have been made clear in the disclaimer or offer.

Sometimes in the rush to get promotions out the door, I don't always have the opportunity to review the disclaimers - particularly with some of these store-specific offers. I will remind our team that they need to make this clear in all offers in which it applies. It's no fun to get surprised at checkout!

Everette, if you would email me your mailing address (sekman@rockler.com), I'd like to send you something for your trouble - and for helping to shed light on this issue.

    Best Regards,

    Scott Ekman

    RE: Need some Advice

I should have said that I do still frequent Rockler (albeit a different store) and have found the people there very decent. It still makes me mad about my coupon experience, but I guess what's done is done. (I probably should have spoken to the manager and not huffed out, but that's just me. :))

Part of the confusion may come from Harbor Freight which always gives their discounts off of the sale price or the regular price.

And no, I'm not trying to compare HF to Rockler. ;)

    RE: Need some Advice

It's good to see that this will end with a little caring move from Rockler... I hope it works out... :) :)

One time I got an email (from a store) about a "Red Tag" sale... I went down there bright & early, looked for the Red Tagged items... didn't find any... after looking all over the store without finding any of them, I finally broke down and asked where they were.

"Oh, they're on this list right here on the counter... we didn't have time to put the Red Tags on them."

I was so mad I walked out... have not been back except for rare conditions where I always call first to be sure of what I expect is going to happen as I think they should happen... items being in stock, etc. I don't put anything past them now.

I think it's easier to order on-line... saves time, gas, and any hassles.

    Have Fun
