Another one in the list of things I've lost

I went to the job site this morning and discovered that we were missing our Bosch jig saw. After a 30 minutes search on the job site from top to bottom, I thought for sure that some one had stolen the saw. I then went through a systematic "who dun it" sequence of thoughts. I narrowed down to two guys and were so upset that I started calling those guys. Thankfully they did not answer. I later found out that some how I put the saw on my truck bed.

I didn't think it to be the case, but this incident revealed clearly to me that, after having so many things stolen from me, I've lost trust to our fellow men. Call me a wuss or whatever, but I am quite sad at this revelation. I was definitely too quick to jump on to the conclusion that they must have done it.

Mebbe some day I'll find that trust. Let's hope that it won't be like the loss of innocence.

It WILL return, Cage. Been there, done that. It DOES come back... and it's well-founded.

I gotta tell ya, it ain't real hard to lose faith and trust in our fellow people, and twenty years of being a cop probably had a lot to do with it. I still generally expect the worst, but that just makes it ever so much better when I get a positive surprise, and those do come along on occassion.

Now, let's start worrying about that memory that you seem to have misplaced. :) Hey, hard and long as you been workin lately, I think we can get past that also. Even God rested on the 7th day.

We all do it, did it, or will do it....

We don't forget when we are done wrong, and quite often others suffer from the fall-out.

    CJR,

Ever wondered why we have to have laws?

It's because people will not voluntarily do the right thing. We are all born with a sinful nature and exercise it frequently when restraint is removed or missing.

The notion that people are "basically good" is only wishful thinking and you will continue to be disappointed if you believe it.

The Golden Rule is a perfect example of how to treat others but don't expect others to reciprocate. Just be pleasantly surprised when they do.

Now, like Jerry mentioned, have you been treated for that CRS problem? :)

Only time I've been ripped off was in college; someone stole my Aspen Four Bell pin.....

Lesson learned from that was to remove temptation...seems to have worked and keeps me less cynical about the nature of man.

    I really like that!
Our experiences with our old house have made me a bit less trusting. But that is NOTHING compared to all that you have been through. Don't beat yourself up over it.

RE: Another one in the list of things I've lost

Thanks for all your comments. I feel better. I do have a core group of people that I trust. I'm trying my best to grow that list. There are quite a few here as well. Yeah the fartsy one. That list includes you, whether you know it or not! }>

Speaking about the loss of innocence, my sister, who is a lay missioner in Asia, was offered a bribe last week during a meeting. The bribe came in an envelope, she thought that was just a thank you note. She talked about the envelope and how nice it is to receive the envelope. She thought that it was odd that people were rolling their eyes. Imagine her surprise to find money and a request for favor. Now she has to return the envelope and renounce her reputation as one who is eager to be bribed. Needless to say, she is a little sad as well.
