    Sam Maloof

Yesterday evening, KVCR the PBS station (San Bernardino) had a one hour show about Sam Maloof.

One of the most facinating shows I've ever watched. It was more of a 'The Man and His Art' and not at all a how to do show. Even LOML who hates woodworking shows sat and watched it.

The show had many of his works on display. A lot of footage showed his 'old' house, including the circular stair case. This house was declared a historical landmark and Caltrans was required to relocate the house when it was in the way of a new freeway.

Watch your local PBS listings for a show called "Maloof". It will be one of the more interesting hours that you've ever spent.

It sounds interesting and I'd really like to see it. Hopefully KERA Dallas/Ft. Worth will carry it.

I don't know a lot about Maloof except that he is self-taught, does things that aren't exactly kosher with the safety police and builds wonderful furniture. My kind of man.

Mr. Maloof is also featured on a series that PBS is running called "Craft in America". Most of the profiles are very interesting. Hopefully they'll cover more woodworkers.

    Dog gone it!

I can't keep up with that station!!

I guess I will have to check their schedules EVERY DAY!!

They also surprisingly started showing NYWS early Fri. mornings.. 5-6 episodes in a row!! ... and other times...

I can't figure that station out... they're constantly changing & moving things around, overriding for fund raising, etc. ... Makes me just furious to expect something to record and get a War instead!

Thank you for the 'heads up'...

edit: I just Searched for Maloof, etc. no hits... missed it again...

While you're there, do a search for "Workshop"... you will be surprised!

I also saw that show. I must be the "World's Worst Judge Of Beauty" but I did not find any of his projects to be anything but an ugly thing to do to nice looking wood. Nicely made and marvels of construction but so ugly and odd to look at. I just "miss" the Sam Maloof thing entirely. On the other hand, if you haven't been lucky enough to see a Robert Bolton piece, then you have missed seeing what can be and should be done with wood.

    Joe,
The calendar section of The LA Times has a TV listing. Usually the back page or close to it. We use it rather than TV Guide. (More accurate) The TV listing is worth the cost of the subscription and I get a NEWSPAPER too.
