Does anyone know of a website with free dining table/chair plans. I really need the plans to be simple because this is my first go at this. I know this is a big project but we really need this to use at home. I would like to be able to use lumber that is easy to aquire locally like from Home Depot. Is this possible?
You should be able to find plenty of "free plans" sites around the internet...just do a google search. Unfortunately I can't point you to any particular set of plans.
For what it's worth, you might not restrict yourself to free plans. Paid-for plans are usually pretty inexpensive (<$10?), and I bet you get some pretty good detail, possibly some cut lists etc.
One thing you might think about is looking for a plan that comes with a video - try searching the woodworking show websites, New Yankee Workshop et al. If this is your first go around, you might find that helpful.
Sorry I don't have much advice to offer, but I figured I could at least bump your message back up to the top ;-).
Good luck and let us know how it pans out.
Edit in: By the way, a few things to think about: 1) you probably can't build a table and chairs for as cheap as you can buy them. Most of us find we do woodworking projects for the enjoyment and quality of the furniture, usually not for the economics. 2) See if you have a Woodcraft or other specialty woodworking store around. They usually offer classes, much better lumber than what you find at HD & Lowes, and the people know what they're talking about and give great advice. 3) If there is no such specialty store, you might wander into a "real" lumber yard sometime (I say "real" as opposed to a home center); those guys certainly know their stuff about wood and might also offer some friendly advice. They for damn sure have better lumber at better prices than HD/Lowes.
As you know, there are all types of routers on the market. Sometimes it is hard to know which one you should use. Check this link, may be this helpyou....
Poplar is a common choice for paint-grade cabinets. Not the hardest of woods, but harder than many, and lower cost than most (if not all) other hardwoods. We use it in our shop pretty regularly for...
Wood filler is often used to repair wood that is not in the best shape. After you use a wood filler, you should use a waterproof varnish or sealer to protect the wood.
Looking for plans for a dining room table that can collapse down to 4 place settings and expand out to 14 to 16 place settings. To further add design problems, leaves, etc should be self storing.

We are near the end of a newly built home. We have growing concerns about the cabinets seeming to damage easily. We found out today that poplar was used and a quick search on the Internet suggests...
