    Happy Earth Day

Happy Earth Day everyone. Go buy some CFLs to celebrate--everyone's got good deals on them today.

(I'm a huge fan of CFLs...incandescent light is depressing to me and savings on the utility bill are always welcome).

I like them too in most cases. There are some people who get headaches from them however.

    RE: Happy Earth Day

I've been celebrating "earth day" since this morning .... I went out in the woods and "did my business" instead of in the bathroom. (used leaves, not paper) I then cut a tree down (2 extras just in case) started a fire, shot a rabbit, went fishing and let the fish completely swallow the hook, ripped the hook out threw it back and then watched it flutter around the pond for a good hour before it died. I dug a hole and poured my used motor oil in it...skinned the rabbit and have it over the fire. Later I'm gonna get my air rifle and shoot some birds ( just to see if I still have good aim)
I also plan on cutting down 3 more trees cause the bastages were blocking my view of a blackhawk that flew over earlier this morning.

ooops! gotta go, I can hear something squealing like a pig... I'm guessing a critter must have stepped into my snare trap.

    Later!

We have been using screw in fluorescent and regular fluorescent in the house for over 20 years. Since '94 I think that there have been only 5 or 6 electric bills that were over $100.

The big pain with fluorescent bulbs is that they have to be taken to a hazardous waste disposal site, 5 miles round trip. Where is the ecology in that?

Well, if you were using a Prius, you could take pride in that.
That is, till disposal time at 100,000 miles. :o

I did my part. I floored the V-10 in my 1 ton service body work truck everywhere I went today, belching out whatever smog I could. }>

The best thing to help the Earth would be to eradicate 9 billion humans so it could heal on it's own.
Yeah, that's pretty much everybody. ;)

    RE: Happy Earth Day

Well, I have to eat crow. All those "scientists" who have been crying about global warming were right...............in the seventies!

You see, many of those same people who today are crying about global warming were crying about the coming ice age back in the seventies. Seems they may have been right back then.

Astronaut and geophysicist Phil Chapman, the first Australian to become an astronaut with NASA, said pictures from the U.S. Solar and Heliospheric Observatory showed no spots on the sun. Sunspot activity has not resumed after hitting an 11-year low in March of last year, raising fears that - far from warming - the globe is about to return to the ice age.

Chapman said the world cooled quickly between january last year and January this year, by about 0.7C.

"This is the fastest temperature change in the instrumental record, and it puts us back to where we were in 1930," Dr. Chapman writes in The Australian today.

"If the temperature does not soon recover, we will have to conclude that global warming is over."

The only thing difference is that global cooling has nothing to do with C02 emissions...or any other emissions (you catch that Sonny?)

Maybe we need to start emitting more C02 to create a greenhouse effect and keep us all from freezing our keesters off. ;)

Then again...I saw a signature line somewhere that said "Alaskans for Global Warming!" Well, I may change mine to "Texans for Global Cooling!"

We could use a nice glacier along about August. ;)

Just heard that ABC is reporting that the big glacier falling apart scene in Algore's movie was ripped from some adventure movie and is actually styrofoam and not ice at all. Seems that the truth is more inconvenient for Algore than for others.
