    Seeing old relatives

From my little sister wedding, I met with an uncle whom I had not seen for 33 yrs and many others I hadn't seen for ages either. The day after the wedding was my father's 80th birthday so we had a huge get together. As with all important things in our lives, we first had a thanksgiving mass and prayer at the house, then we ate and talked and ate and talked well into the night. We talked about the relatives who had since left us. The kids (about 50 or so) were standing behind a great table, where the older generation sit and talked, so they could listen and find out more about their roots. My uncle recited a long poem he had written about his feeling of past events. One of the line he said resonated with me. Let me translate it to English:
"Old images fade in our mind, clear in our heart.
When we find each other, the angels hark."

    RE: Seeing old relatives

Last year at the funeral for a forty year old cousin that was killed in a motorcycle accident another cousin and I realized that the last time we actually had spoken to him was at our grandmother's funeral 15 years ago.

We decided it was about time for a family reunion for that side of the family, so this July my wife and I are hosting it so we can all get together for a happy occasion.

I'm not very educated with international languages, is you native language, Vietnamese? Mandarin, or is it Cantonese?.

What are the odds you have a program that you could write that saying in your native language and send it to me? I've looked and can't find anything that I can use for traditional Mandarin writing (Chinese characters?)
Or do you know of an image program with traditional Asian fonts that I could use to make graphics out of?

My native language is VietNamese. I do have a free program for typing VietNamese. As for Chinese, I'm sure there are similar software. I'll just have to look.

A quick check shows [link:www.mandarintools.com|Mandarin] that seems pretty good.

I think this is you 釘 (Nail, brad etc..)

    Duc,

What I would like to be able to do it, take this "Old images fade in our mind, clear in our heart. When we find each other, the angels hark."

and put it into traditional Vietnamese forum...

Like this traditional Chinese character that means "East"... http://lost-theory.org/ocrat/images/aa46.gif

    Or the simplified form... http://lost-theory.org/ocrat/images/b6ab.gif

I'll email the poem to you when I get it sent to me. The line I posted here is my own loose translation of his one particular line. I hope it wasn't too bad, I'm no poet ya know.

    Do y'all remember Herb?

"Yup, and we all look alike tee hee hee"

    Do y'all remember Herb?

That was a Burger King promotion. If you found Herb eating in a BK restaurant and you were the first person to ask if he was Herb, you won a prize.

Well, it was Dallas, I was doing some contract work for a company that did business analysis using Wang computer systems. I can't remember the name but they were close to a railroad siding and had their own diesel generators in case of power failure.

I was wearing athletic shoes, jeans, a dress shirt with a tie and had a few pens in my shirt pocket. Even though I was at a customer site, I didn't dress up as I was pulling cables and doing a lot of crawling above and below the floor. It wasn't real dirty work but it wasn't a desk job either.

I had been in town for a few weeks and was ducking out for a quick meal before getting back to work. As I recall, it was a Saturday evening, perhaps 6:30 PM or so. There weren't many people in this particular BK at this time and I was just starting to eat my hamburger and go over some documentation when an African American gentleman sat down at my table.

He starts the conversation with, "I'm sorry to bother you but my wife is making me ask. Are you Herb?" I just laughed and laughed for a good minute.

Then I looked at him and said, "Ya know, we all look alike." Then he laughed and laughed, we laughed. We both were laughing so hard that we had tears in our eyes. For the next 15 minutes we had the most delightful conversation. As it turned out he was from Queens and I from Brooklyn. One of my more enjoyable meals.

    RE: Seeing old relatives

. . . prayer at the house, then we ate and talked and ate and talked well into the night.

Now I'm feeling just like family. Of course we only ate once when you were here, but we darned sure talked well into the night. :)

You know, those sort of things happening with family can not be planned, they just gotta happen on their own. But it sure feels great when it does happen. Glad to hear you had a great time with your extended family.

So, was this the trip when you were gonna deliver the stand or what ever you decided on to hang that special art?
