Roof progress
Been shingling, not to quick. Can only work on it when it's in the shade or I'll tear up the shingles walking on them, they get pretty soft at 185°. (what my non-contact therm says when they are in the sun.) So that only leaves from about 8PM to 9PM (we ( son, wife, and I ) have worked on it with lights till 10PM but it's tough, shadows, I always seem to be in the light ) and from sunrise to about 9 or 10am (depends on which part of the roof, the trees throw shade till 10am but only on the side by the street). The hardest part, for me is getting up at sunrise.
This is about 3 days worth but son can only help in the evenings and I only managed to get up earlier than the sun this morning. Probably about 15 hours in the shingling so far. The wife will bring shingles to me up the ladder but she won't get on the roof. Just as well, I'd worry about her up there.

Around 10AM, shade is all but gone up there.

Note the roof vent, like the color? They only come in white, brown, charcoal or galvanized. I sanded and painted them with some basecoat clearcoat. The color is the same as our Durango, I used flattening agent in the clearcoat so they weren't shinny.

Shot the chimney cap (on the brick chimney) too. Had to spray that one on the roof, it's attached to the cement with wires.
Got about half of this side done. The other side will probably be worse, more crap over there, 3 skylights, 2 vents, and a sewer vent to go around. Plus will have to carry the shingles farther.
At the rate that I'm going should be done by the end of August, well at least with the shingling. Then have all the soffits to build and put up. We've decided probably won't do the siding till next Spring.
What do you think? Doesn't it just make you want to shingle ;-)
Thanks ~Mike

RE: Roof progress
I sure don't envy you any, Mike. I thought crawling up there to inspect them for insurance claims is hard enough. I have been quitting after noon lately. It is just too hot to be up there.

Too many of us have shingles. Must be a new internet strain of the shingles.

[font color="purple"]Pretty warm on roof's, I don't like it much above 70° in the shade. Can't hardly stand it in the sun. They are calling for 102° today. Worked on it some this morning, not sure I will go up tonight unless it cools off a lot.
So do you work for an insurance company or are you and independant adjuster?
Thanks ~Mike
