    Good news today

Several years ago the LOML suffered from an over active thyroid. Turned out that it was an abnormal enlargement of the gland. It took quite some time to diagnose the problem, but once it was diagnosed, she had a partial thyroidectomy. Because they didn't have to take the entire gland, she didn't have to go on any meds etc.

Fast forward a few months ago. She went in to our doctor for a regular check-up and follow-up on some other issues. He discovered another growth, which he referred to as a goiter, on the thyroid gland and referred her for a biopsy. It was scheduled for this morning so we drove to Temple where the HMO and Hospital System is based. The specialist there checked her out and couldn't feel anything large enough to be a goiter, so opted to do a sonogram first. The growth is only 1.1 cm in size, barely large enough to be considered a nodule, and nothing to worry about. He told her to come back in a year and they'll check it again, but he doubted that it would grow any more.

Cost me a $40 co-pay, gas for the 90 mile round trip, and breakfast for us and our oldest grandson at Cracker Barrel.

    Excellent!

Betcha' she can testify that a hyperthyroid condition is a realy BOOGER. I've known a few people with hyperthyroid problems, and it seems standard for it to go misdiagnosed for quite a while. Meanwhile, they're feeling like... well, you know. No need to talk about how it feels.

    Jerry,

Please don't let this fester mentaly until next check up.
Take the good news and run, so to speak.
Though I take you to be more the optimist anyway.

    Cheers
    Glen

Oh yeah, she would eat several times a day, but her metabolism would just burn it all up. Always tired and run down.

Oh, we're not gonna fret about it. The doc was very optimistic that it would likely stay the same size. He also is a specialist in Osteoporosis, which she is being treated for, and the worst news he gave was that she needed to watch her coffee intake. He also recommended a change in taking her calcium pills to splitting the dosage twice a day instead of taking them all at once.
