On my own for a few days, almost

The LOML is off to Louisville, KY to read AP essays till the 12th. Normally, this is intense Bratwurst time for me, but since the oldest grandson is staying with us this summer, LOML said I have to clean up my act. You know, feed him a variety of healthy stuff. :-(

His mom is coming in a bit to take him to a graduation party or some such, so maybe I'll pig out on bratwurst while he's gone. :)

    "AP essays"

Is that Associated Press? :) ... or what?

Sounds like you're still having fun... even though you have to watch what you eat... :) :)

I say let him have all the healthy stuff and keep the brats to yourself. ;)

I've actually been "batching it" myself since Tuesday. LOML is in Milwaukee for the giant Bead & Button convention until tomorrow afternoon. For me, it usually means a variety of different pizzas.

While I was mowing earlier today the neighbor lady asked if I want to have dinner with her tonight...hmm...should I be on my guard? ;)

Jerry you shoudla called me, I'd have sent some fresh homemade brats from Milwaukee along w/ kraut and cheese. They won't let me ship beer though.

Wonder if Cody ever ate those brats I sent him.

"AP" is Advanced Placement. The classes are for the well motivated high school students. These are basically college level courses taken in high school. In English AP, for example, the Junior AP class receives instruction that would normally be taught in the first semester of college, the Senior AP class would be the second semester of English in college. Toward the end of each school year the College Board provides tests at locations throughout the country for each of the AP subjects available. If the student passes these tests, they get credit at most colleges for those classes.

The Senior AP English tests include writing an essay on one of several prompts offered. About a million kids take these tests each year across the country, and someone has to read and score the essays. The college board hires about 1000 people each year to read the essays over an 8 day period. They fly the readers in to where ever they are doing the reading, put them up in fancy hotels, feed them, and pay them about $1400 for their time.

I think I'd be on my guard, but then I don't know your neighbor lady. :)

    WOW!

    That's a lot of reading!

If my math is correct, 1,000,000 essays to be read by 1,000 people = 1,000 essays to be read by each person. They must be SPEED READERS...? Yes? :) :)

Maybe all 1,000,000 are NOT Senior AP? :)

Sounds like ur wife is going to have some FUN! :)

That's a million + or - essays to be read. And your math is right, somewhere around 1000 each. Last year they had a bunch of folks that didn't show up, so they each read more. Since that entailed several more hours on a couple of the days, they paid them more money.

They also get Continuing Education Credits for participating, more than most states require, so it is a way of getting paid for receiving those all important credits to maintain her certification. It is also a feather in her cap to get invited back each year because about 2/3 or more of the readers are college professors, and there is usually more high school teachers applying to participate than they have slots. They also don't normally invite high school teachers back for more than 2 years, and this is her 5th year.
