Can drywall be made to look like paneling?

    Hi,

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I didn't find any answers on Google.

I'm planning to have some box moulding and a chair rail added to my living room next year. I've always loved judges paneling, but doing a whole room in wood is too expensive. Is there any way to simulate a look like this with wood moulding on drywall, like with some kind of glaze and a woodgraining tool?

    Thanks!

Yes, absolutely it can be done. It's actually quite common although most times it's just painted, not wood grained. A simple base cap works well for this molding about 1 3/8" wide. Put some (not too much) titebond glue on the back, because in most frames the verticals miss framing members. An air powered finish stapler was always my choice for attaching these moldings to the drywall, once the glue sets, it's final, not going anywhere.

If you want the wood look on the wall, you could find a wall paper that is a wood-grain pattern. and then make the frames out of a molding of your choice and then attach the frame to the wall per DaveZ's suggestion.
