Thrift store find
Found at a local Thrift Store, here in town. Type 9, Bailey #8c, for..........$25.
A bit of a rust bucket, but it cleaned up very nicely. new black Walnut handles were added, as the originals were chewed up. A little "break-out" at the mouth, plane still make decent shavings, this IS a jointer plane, afterall.Bailey #8c 003.jpgBailey #8c 001.jpgHandle finish 005.jpgMister Bailey 010.jpgJust a few looks at this BIG guy.

iron looked good, just RUISTY. Lever cap, though, looked a little chewed up on one side of the edge. Ground that off, and adjusted to (new) fit. Bailey set#2 002.jpgMister Bailey 001.jpg making nice curls nowhandle project 001.jpg

Nice find, I just picked up the very same plane at an estate sale. Fifty bucks, talked them down from seventy five. Decent condition, no major rust just needs some cleaning and refinishing of the wood bits. Seems the previous owner fancied an all black paint finish.
