Soft pads for random orbit sander (lil confused)
I'm looking to buy a random orbit sander, specifically a Dewalt. At lowes there is a Dewalt pad but under description it says that it fits Porter cable sanders. The only Dewalt pad i can find is for the DW421K and DW423K but they are discontinued. will either of these pads work with a dewalt sander? I'm looking at the D26451K for $59.99 at lowes.

You might want to look at a Bosch sander, might cost a bit more than the Dewalt but the pads are reasonably priced and you have a good choice of densities:

I don't know if this applies or not but I have replaced the pad on a pneumatic sander before. It was just a threaded stud on the pad that threaded into the sander. In fact I changed it from a 6" stickon pad system to a 5" hook and loop and it worked just fine. IIRC it was a generic item I got via either Amazon or Ebay.
There really shouldn't be a need to change the pad on a ROS for years, short of damaging it. On sanding discs, most relate to the number of holes and their placement in relation to the pad for dust collection.Last edited by hcbph; 06-05-2012 at 08:37 AM.
