    Finishing Rosewood Veneer Help

I have never finish any wood before, but I am going to give it a shot. I would like a high gloss finish. It does not need to be a piano finish, but I would like it to have a shine. This is a veneer I am applying to a speaker. I don't have a lot of tools, but I can buy the basics. I would prefer to do the sanding and polishing by hand than spend lots of money on the tools(willing to take the extra time). Can someone give me a step by step instruction on how I need to do this? The veneer is already sanded to 150 grit. Do I use lacquer? Is there an oil? Do you rub it in with a rag? What are you looking for when you rub it in? These are the kinds of things I'm trying to figure out. I've read that rosewood is oily to begin with so I'm not sure if there is something else I need to do with this type of wood. I would really appreciate any advice. I follow instructions well, but please remember I am a beginner. Assume I know nothing.
