MDF Glue
So I will be glueing MDF factory face to factory face and was wondering what kind of glue should be used? I will be glueing about 20 pieces together to make a dense piece of wood, and will be using threaded rod to add holding power. Any advice about glue would be great. Thanks.

RE: MDF Glue
What are you trying to make?
I haven't used much MDF as of yet, but when I have, I have used plain wood glue (I prefer the Titebond brand) and it has worked just fine.

RE: MDF Glue
I will be combining peices of MDf and then cutting them out in varios shapes, actually it doesnt really matter what i am making i just want to know how to glue the pieces together. Does the type of glue matter based on face gluening or edge glueing?

RE: MDF Glue
Regular yellow wood glue will work just fine. I ahve faced glued MDF like that before with no problems.

Now that will be a mean trick to glue up enough mdf to make any sort of wood, dense or not. When you finish with that, can I bring you some lead to make into gold? :)
Yeller glue will work, although you might want to size the pieces with some thinned yella glue if the glueups will be large surface areas. MDF is sorta like endgrain of wood, it drinks up lots of glue.

RE: MDF Glue
'Nutha' thought to add...
If you're gluing a large surface area, it helps to take a credit card (this is a good thing to do anyway) and barely graze it along one edge with a set of pinking shears. That gives you a uniform set of teeth along that edge. Use that to spread the glue around, and you'll end up with a uniform layer of glue - no thick spots, no thin ones.

RE: MDF Glue
I was wondering about speading the glue out. Should clamping pressure be high or not, i have read that not adding so much pressure allows the glue to bond better, is that true?

Tim,
Do you shear a lot of pinks? And, when is pink-shearing season?
