    cherry desk with grafitti

Help! I just came into possession of a beautiful cherry wood desk with grafitti scribed in it lightly. I love the look of this desk, but I am not sure how to tackle the doodlings of a young Led Zepplin Fan. The etching are less than an 1/8th of inch deep. Thanks for your help!

    RE: cherry desk with grafitti

The repair is tough to do without knowing a lot more about the desk.

If it is a solid top? How old is it? What kind of finish? What your objective is for the desk.

If it is a solid surface you could strip and sand it down to remove the scratches. You would end up with a thinner top that would need some work to match the finish. Cherry darkens with age and it would be tough to get a exact match.

If the desk is very old get it to a furniture restore and get an appraisal before you do anything,

It is possibe to fill the scratches with the colored fill sticks to match the finish and a nice coat of finish would make it hard to detect...

    Sorry but it all depends.
