Mane and Tail for Rocking Horse

I have a question regarding a rocking horse I am making for my granddaughter. Is there a source for these? Any suggestions will be appreciated.
    Thanks

Just guessing here... bundles of appropriately-colored yarn? I've never done a rocking horse, so I dunno...

Long thin strips of leather? Like the size of leather shoelaces? That might last a much longer time than yarn.

Marie suggested (to me) another option just a little while ago... she's seen rocking horses with manes & tails made from ragmop heads. Sturdy and... well, not exactly REALISTIC-looking, but not bad.

Sisal rope glued in holes, then unwound and brushed is often used,
