Which Table Saw???
Hi everyone I'm new to this site and new too woodworking this is the best site i've found, I come to this site everyday just to see the projects and get some ideas.I want to purchase my equipment that is the reason i'm putting up this post. I have two table saws in mind one is the craftsman 22124 10 inch 1.75hp i guess it's called a hybrid with the Biesemyer fence and the other saw is the grizzly G1023SLW 10" 3hp cabinet saw I like them both and they are both in my price range i have 220 in my garage so power won't be an issue. I don't have a whole lot of experience in woodworking just through school but I loved it so want to get back into it. I will be doing alot of basic stuff benches, tables and when I feel confident in myself I would like to build some kitchen cabinets for my house so basically I need a table saw that is accurate and hopefully will last me a long time. I purchased the craftsman saw but am having second thoughts on it i've been hearing alot of talk about the tables not being flat so now i'm wondering if I should cancel my order (before I receive it) and look at the grizzly a little more. I am also looking at purchasing a jointer and planer in the near future so i'll be looking at the best deal there too but right now i need to know your opinions on the saws so I can decide to cancel or not any information would be greatly appreciated thanks.

RE: Which Table Saw???
Welcome to the forum. :)
I guess the only advice I could give ya would be this....
If you got the cabinet saw, the chances of you wanting to upgrade later would be almost nil.... I don't ever hear anyone ending up "wanting" after getting a cabinet saw.... and the Grizzly is a good choice.

RE: Which Table Saw???
Tom,
WELCOME to the FORUM.
It's really hard to steer someone into a choice like that.
The grizz and the craftsman saw that you refer to are two completely different machines.
Woodmangler is right though - if you have the cabinet saw - you will not need to upgrade later.

Another vote for the cabinet saw.Of the two mentioned the csbinet saw is by far the better choice you won't regret.

RE: Which Table Saw???
Someday... if I ever grow up... it'd be nice to have something like the 1023.
Not for a long time, though. Not for me. I'm plenty happy with much less saw than that.

Go Grizz or go home.. lol - no, j/k welcome to the forum! Lots of good stuff on here, lots of different ideas. Honestly - I'd go Grizzly no doubt - the quality will be equal or greater than the craftsman, plus it's a full cabinet 3HP saw. You'll be very happy with your saw, I am sure of this!

RE: Which Table Saw???
Gotta agree with the rest of these guys. If money is not an issue I would go for the Grizzly over the Craftsman. One of these days I want to upgrade my TS also. Have often wished i had spent a little more and gone with a cabinet saw. OH, yeah, welcome to the forum. There are some really awesome folks here who dish out some pretty good advice.

RE: Which Table Saw???
Tom,
Got the money and the space for a 3hp cabinet saw and the hankering for one, I'd say sure go for it. It will very likely be the last TS you will ever need.
Is that the best advise I can give you? It's all true too but not necessarily.
Here's why.
I have no idea what or where you're going to take this hobby to. Maybe at this point, you don't either and that's understandable.
By the time you have EVERYTHING bought and in place you will likely have between 5 and 8 thousand dollars spent. Possibly closer to 10.
So depending on how those numbers figure into you wood working dreams is how you decide to roll.
One last thing on all this power tool buying that we all get caught up in. I may be wrong here but I think I'm correct but THE piece to make for most of us around here, after we've ARRIVED, if we ever do, is something, a table or a chair that's made by hand with hand cut joints and no power tools used.
You may start off buying expensive power tools so you can make cabinets easily. I know that I did. But the first time you hand plane something to smooth out a bad assembly you made with those power tools... ahhh. That's Wood Working. And it doesn't get any better then that.

RE: Which Table Saw???
Welcome to the forum Tom. As you already know, these guys will answer just about anything and usually pretty quick. Seems like they the table saw thing covered so I'll throw my advice at the upcoming jointer/planer purchase. I bought both of mine used. Both are older but quality machines. Keep that in mind. Really helps with the budget. I don't know where you're hailing from, but if there's a craiglist place nearby keep your eyes on that. Good deals show up often and want ad papers may have some good stuff too. Just some things to keep in the back of your head.
