Sand Blasting?
I am thinking about getting a sandblasting machine for signmaking.
Has anybody every done and sandblasting on wood?
Glass Bead?
Abrasive Grit?
Walnut shells?
If you have done it - how have you gone about it?

RE: Sand Blasting?
We used one to strip a buffet that the stain came out too dark on. We tried sugar sand and two grits of walnut shells. Both grits of walnut shells just left dents in the wood (alder) without really having any other effect. The sugar sand didn't work the way we had hoped, but it did strip the wood to a very weathered appearance.

RE: Sand Blasting?
The sand blasting of wood for signs is to erode the wood for the texture.
Walnut shells laft dents? I think that may be desirable for what I will be looking for.

Yeah, the walnut shells left dents in alder. If the wood had been oak or maple, I doubt it would have dented. I think with experimentation, you should easily find the look you are going for. For the size of signs you're able to make, I'd look into a sandblasting cabinet. It would keep your shop cleaner and you could recycle your blasting media.

Look on the bright side. Now you can hide your own easter eggs and buy your own Christmas presents. }>

Ohhh yes this is certainly true.
Don't be suprised if I ask again in another month or two.
