Sems as though thee is little information on this wood. After bidding in a piece at a recent auction and turning it here are a few observations. The wood is quite dense and a bit chippy to turn, but does not seem to tear out easily or fragment. Tools dull faily rapidly. It was said to take a high shine. Sanding to 2400 grit and Beale buffing showed this to be true. The wood is nicely figure, as noted in the photos of the species on the web. Elected not to finish otherwise since I doubted an oil would enhance the appearance of the piece and its soft shine certainly doesn't suggest the need for a lacquer finish. Happy to have added it to my turning experience; would let that experience stand and not seek another sample of the wood.
