Roto Zip How Good are They

anyone own a Roto Zip and if you do ? what do you think of it and what do you use it for. Don,

I certainly hope someone with experience gives you their opinion
about the RotoZip. I have toyed with the idea of buying one,
but would like to know more before spending the money. I'll
be reading your replies. By, the way, I thought maybe one reply,
even without an answer, may start the ball rolling.

Hi,

The RotoZip offer a very large range of purpose.
The only problem is that you are limited at 1 1/2" long drill bit! It can practicly cut anything except floor tiles...

They also make an adapter that transform the rotozip into a grinder or a disc sander...The only problem is that RotoZip recommend to not go faster then 22000rpm! As you probably all know it is just the Revolution edition of the Rotozip tha is variable speed. All other model are running at 33.000rpm.

If you plan to use it a lot go for it.....if not buy the porter cable one

I own several older homes and it seems that my electrician is always needing to add outlets. The roto zip is a gift from above for doing this. It cuts anything from new drywall to the old plaster and laths. The last house we even had the chance to cut outlets into an exsisting tile walls.(somebody remodled the kitchen with no outlets) The roto zip worked great.

I have tried to use it for other functions but have found it to be limited in thicker material. I do believe though it is a great crafter tool.

My brother purchased one and have used it a few times. It's nothing more that a trim router with a D-handle on it. If cutting ply wood the bits dull very quick. I would purchase a trim router. Would have a lot more uses and you can get one for $89 to $100.00. I see on Amazon that Dewalt make a tool similar to the roto- zip and is priced less. May want to take a look.

I have the Revolution model and found it very usefull for all of the above reasons. I have also used it for "scroll work" and had some very good results.

I have one that my wife gave me over a year ago and I have only had the need to use it twice. It is outstanding for doing cut-outs of any kind. Beyond that, it is not my tool of choice.
