Jointers and Planers
If there's a jointer/planer, why buy them seprately?

Yes, there are a number of companies that make combination machines. Most of them in Europe. I have a Kity that is a 10 in combination machine. Inca also makes a 10 inch combination machine. They are not cheep and If I had it to do over I would have bought seperate machines. The change over from one to the other is quick but still it is a pain. You have to have a sawdust system with these tools and that is the issue with the change over. It is hard to make the change and keep the sawdust tube connected.
The advantage is that you get a wide jointer but a more narrow planner. You have to change from one task to the other

My experience has been that dedicated machines perform better, and require less setup time.
