    Scroll saws

I'm interested in buying a good quality scroll saw. I have a ten year old son that is interested in cutting various shapes for projects he dreams up. I don't want to let him use a band saw because it's too dangerous. I'd also like to use the saw myself so I need something durable enough withstand my son's enthusiasm. What are features I should look for and what brands and models can you recommend?

    Features to look for:
    Variable speed
Air puffer to keep work area clear of sawdut
sufficient throat to handle size of projects you anticipate
    Ease of blade change

Blades come in two styles, pinned and pinless. Not all blades are available in both styles (or at a reasonable price).

I just bought Delta 16" for SWMBO to play with.

    Other things to get:
    Work Light
    Stand
    Lots of blades
    Foot switch
    Earplugs

Mark nailed it all. Just remember to mount it securely, as the up/down motion vibrates like crazy. Look at how much you want to spend, go from there. Veriable speed is a must as you want to cut thinner wood at a slower rate.
