Stanley made the Defiance line of handplanes from the 1920s up til about 1955. It was a lower-priced line for the homeowner or handyman.

There was a much earlier line of Defiance planes made by Leonard Bailey in the 1870s which are rare and valuable. Stanley bought out Bailey in the 1880s after rancorous litigation. Wiley Horne

Three weeks ago I was cleaning out old cardboard boxes and came across two, very rusty, but complete Reliance planes that my Grandfather had given me.

Went to the Pond Neandertal forum for some good information. Do a search on Defiance for the last three weeks. You will see good responses and links regarding the Reliance plane.
