Can I turn out rolling pins from oak?

Q: Can I turn rolling pins from oak? I have heard because of the grain this shouldn't be done.
Stephen Rosasco: Oak is an open grained wood, but it can be turned. I wouldn't use it for food, because food would get caught in the grain.
